New Record Set for Renewable Energy in 2017

Even though the world still gets 80% of its energy from coal, oil and natural goals, there has been a significant growth in using zero-carbon sources.

According to the annual Global Status Report published by renewables policy group REN21, the money spent on renewable installations was more than twice the sum spent on nuclear and fossil-fuel power in 2017. Despite the rapid growth of renewable energy sources across the globe, which actually doubled in the last 10 years, it is still not enough to reduce emissions across the world.

There has been 2.1% power demand increase within the last year and renewable sources aren't able to keep pace. Moreover, the world's energy-related carbon emissions rose by 1.7% for the first time in four years. As a whole, the world still relies heavily on fossil fuels, which accounts for 80% of all energy generated globally. But it is a good sign that renewables keep growing each year.
